Placing your cameras

Where the cameras sit has more effect on accuracy than anything else. Get this right and the rest of setup is easy.

  • Full board in frame. Every camera should see the entire board, with nothing blocking the view.
  • Shoot from an angle. Cameras placed to the side, angled in, see the dart’s shaft against the board. A straight-on view makes darts much harder to spot.
  • Use more than one camera. A second camera lets dartpilot compare views, which is what separates darts that land almost on top of each other.
  • Mount them rigidly. If a camera shifts, calibration is void. Fix cameras so they can’t drift.
  • Set the lighting first. Sort out shadows and glare before you calibrate, not after.

Checking the view

Open the desktop app and look at each camera feed. You should see the full board with the segments easy to read. The app’s diagnostics show whether each camera is healthy.
